There is no other work like the Bible, containing so much that young children can read and understand, and so much that wise men and scholars can only wonder at.
I see nothing odd about the idea that Jesus predicted Peter’s betrayal multiple times. Peter was convinced he was willing to lay down his life, and I don’t doubt he was—so long as he could die fighting, swinging his sword with reckless abandon against a superior foe. That takes real courage, and Peter had it. He didn’t run until Jesus forbade him from fighting. But Jesus’ deliberate, unresisting march to the cross required a different kind of courage altogether. With one thought, his enemies would have ceased to be, but He withheld his wrath out of love for them (and us) even as they mocked him and crucified him. That’s a love we’ll never understand until we see Him face to face.
