Dear Mr. Sanger,
I am an acquaintance of your son, Henry (in this very blog). I met him in the community of the game he’s developing, which you may know, suroi.io . I stumbled upon your blog by accident, and it intrigued me heavily, because of the striking similarity of what my father taught me.
He too, wants to raise awareness about the methods we can use to teach small kids how to read (I started reading when I was around 2, but I was already recognizing images in books when I was merely 10 months old), and spell (I could spell words like pneumonia, erythropoiesis, etc.) when I was around the same age. He also wants to conduct a nationwide study from where I’m from.
I hope this reaches you, we could collaborate and possibly get this into not just nationwide, but a global universal method of education in reading, spelling and overall English literacy.
Thank you!
Have you seen ReadingBear.org?
What do you have in mind?
Hi Larry,
I feel so lucky that I found your essay. It was mind-opening, to say the least, as I am trying to teach my son (3 years old) to read. I am now motivated to teach him more about general knowledge, too. Would you mind sharing the presentations that you made for your son? I also tried to go to the website for BrillKids, but it seems not to work/active at the moment. I just want to see a sample of a presentation for an audience at my son age would look like. Thank you and congrats for raising such smart and curious readers successfully!
Mr. Sanger,
I am particularly interested in the humanities sequence you have laid out for your oldest son. Are you able to recommend a list of the works (and the order in which they should be studied) for a high school aged pupil of similar ability? Thank you!
You are a very generous gentleman, Professor. Thank you immensely…..this gives me the confidence I needed to continue homeschooling through the high school years.
I would love to download the flashcards and presentations but neither would work on my PC or Mac. I also tried downloading one of the links you shared in the comments and that did not work either. Thanks for passing on this helpful esssay, I am working with my 18 month old with reading. I already use a lot of flashcards but would love to see what your list looks like to add to mine. Thanks!
Yes, I need to choose and re-host everything…
